About this policy
The Washington Area Speech and Debate League (“WASDL,” “we,” “us”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, all-volunteer organization that runs speech and debate tournaments for middle and high schools in the greater Washington, D.C., area. This policy explains what information we collect through this website and in running our league and tournaments, how we use and share it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Information you send us. When you use our contact form or email us, we receive what you provide, such as your name, email address, phone number, school and message.
- Questions to the WASDL assistant. Questions typed into the WASDL assistant on our home page are processed by the support partner that operates it, only to answer them. Please don’t enter personal information there.
- Member school, coach and judge information. Member schools and coaches give us contact details for coaches, school representatives and judges, including names, email addresses and mobile phone numbers, through membership applications and tournament registration.
- Tournament participation information. Coaches register students and judges on Tabroom.com, which is operated by the National Speech and Debate Association (NSDA) under its own privacy policy. Tournament officials use registration details such as names, school, events, judging assignments and results to run each tournament.
- Messages you send during tournaments. If you contact tournament officials by text or email, for example to report a problem, we receive your phone number or email address and what you write.
- Website use. This website does not use cookies, analytics or advertising trackers. Our hosting provider may automatically log basic technical information, such as IP address and browser type, for security and to keep the site running.
How we use information
- To run tournaments: registration, judge obligations and assignments, schedules, room changes, delays, results and awards.
- To respond to questions and requests, and to communicate with coaches, judges and member schools about league business.
- To determine qualification for MetroFinals and the National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) Grand National Tournament.
- To keep tournaments safe and fair, including enforcing our Harassment & Discrimination Policy.
- To meet legal and non-profit record-keeping obligations.
We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
How we contact coaches and judges
By registering to judge at a WASDL tournament, or by serving as a coach or school representative for a WASDL member school, you agree that WASDL and its tournament officials may contact you by email, phone call and text message to support the operation of our tournaments and league. For example, we may send you registration and judging reminders, assignments, schedule changes, delays, and follow-up on issues you report.
These are operational messages, not marketing. You can stop text messages at any time by replying STOP. Coaches who opt out of texts will still receive league email, because we need it to run the league. See our Text Message Terms for details.
Text messages (SMS)
Texts come from WASDL and identify WASDL as the sender. They may be sent through systems run by our service providers or support partners on WASDL's behalf. Message frequency varies, and is usually highest on tournament days. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Information sharing to subcontractors in support services, such as customer service and message delivery, is permitted. All other use case categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
Students and children
Our tournaments serve students in grades 7–12. Student information reaches us through their schools and coaches. This website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them online. If you believe a child under 13 has sent us personal information through this website, contact us and we will delete it.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as we need it to run tournaments, maintain league records such as results and qualification history, and meet legal obligations. Contact-form messages are deleted when they are no longer needed.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold and limit access to the volunteers who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
Your choices
- Reply STOP to any WASDL text message to stop texts.
- Contact us to ask what information we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, subject to records we must keep.
- Manage your Tabroom.com account and paradigm directly on Tabroom.com.
